This year, Fadden Primary School P&C embraced the opportunity, and their experience has been overwhelmingly positive. We hope it inspires other P&Cs to consider participating in the future.
Tessa Lau from Fadden Primary P&C shared their journey with us.
“We applied to take part without realising all the great extra perks it comes with," she says "and we highly recommend it if other P&Cs want to get involved in future years!”
As part of the Floriade Community program, Fadden P&C was gifted an incredible 4000 flowering plants - 2000 bulbs and 2000 annuals - to transform a space at the school into a beautiful garden.
Tessa said that although they needed to invest in soil to prepare the area for planting, “the space is beautiful and has been a huge asset to the school and the community.”
But the perks didn’t stop there. Tessa said Fadden P&C also had the chance to apply for a grant of up to $2500 to host a Floriade in the Suburbs event, and they were successful.
“As participants of Floriade Community for 2024, we were given the opportunity to apply for a grant to hold an event, and we were successful in receiving $2480 to host our Floriade @ Fadden Spring Fair. We had a huge day with a great turnout and made over $3000 profit from our three-hour event.”
The fair was a fantastic celebration and provided a boost to both school pride and broader community engagement.
Tessa was thrilled with the results.
“Taking part in Floriade Community has been all positive for us and has really helped bring school pride and wider community support up for 2024," she said.
"We would highly recommend getting involved!”
She also added that the plants and bulbs are theirs to keep - or potentially sell as an extra fundraiser once Floriade is done. That’s a bonus benefit that will continue to support their P&C’s efforts.
It’s wonderful to see our school communities participating in such vibrant, positive initiatives. Floriade Community has clearly brought both beauty and benefit to Fadden Primary, and we hope other P&Cs are inspired to follow in their footsteps in future years.
