Support Your Local School with a Democracy Sausage this Saturday!

As voters head to the polls for the upcoming ACT election, public school P&Cs across the territory are inviting the community to take part in an iconic Australian tradition — the Democracy Sausage!   

President of the ACT Council of P&C Associations Liane Joubert says these volunteer-run BBQs offer more than just a tasty snack — they’re a vital fundraising opportunity for local school communities.  

"Election day is one of the biggest fundraising opportunities for many of our public schools, and with fewer polling places, we’re seeing some P&Cs working together to make sure voters can still enjoy this great tradition. It's a fantastic way for the whole community to contribute to the success of local students, while enjoying something as quintessentially Australian as a sausage sandwich."  

Ms Joubert encouraged the community to get involved this Saturday, even if they’ve already voted.  

"Even if you've pre-polled, we invite everyone to come down, grab a democracy sausage, and support the hard work of our school communities. Your contribution helps provide extra resources that enhance the learning experience for all students."  

Ms Joubert also encouraged voters to consider the public education policies of candidates before casting their vote.  

"This election is an opportunity to make your vote count for the future of public education in the ACT. Our schools need ongoing support to continue delivering quality education for all students. By voting and supporting your local school, you’re helping to ensure that public education remains strong in our community. Together we can make a difference."
