I would like to start by thanking my predecessor Alison for her tireless work representing the views of public school parents over the past three years.
As Council President, I hope to continue building on this wonderful work and to be a voice for all parents across ACT public schools.
For me, it is a great opportunity to be an advocate in a community where not everyone has the ability to speak up for our children, and to help secure the resources needed to support and teach them.
Council has and continues to embark on great collaborations with the Minister for Education and the Education Directorate, allowing for the parent voice to be heard on a regular basis in forums that will lead to more positive outcomes and engagement for parents, teachers and school executives.
I’m looking forward to learning more about educational governance and the environment around it in the ACT, while continuing to build - and hopefully uplift - communities around our children and schools.
Often, engagement between parents, carers, schools, and policy makers is seen as an “us against them” scenario. I would like to see all stakeholders working together towards one goal - making ACT public schools even better places.
