Call for more school psychologists

As ACT students go back to school, community leaders have written to ACT Chief Minister, Andrew Barr, calling on him to increase the number of psychologists in ACT schools as recommended by the Expert Panel On Students With Complex Needs and Challenging Behaviours

The Expert Panel recommended a ratio of one school psychologist for every 500 students in ACT public schools. Despite saying in November that it accepted all of the Panel’s recommendations, the ACT Government is yet to employ even one of the 34 additional school psychologists needed to achieve the ratio.

Council is a signatory to the open letter, along with the Australian Education Union, The Australian Australian Psychologists and Counsellors in Schools, the ACT Council of Social Service, the St Vincent De Paul Society of the ACT and a range of other community organisations.
